DayZ 1.21 Experimental Update
The DayZ 1.21 Experimental update dropped on April 20th, right after a live stream where the developers showcased the upcoming content. This was a bit of a surprise, as it's not often that we see a new update drop so quickly after a live stream. The developers seemed confident in the state of the update, and we were eager to get our hands on it.
The Crossbow
One of the most notable additions in the 1.21 update is the reintroduction of the crossbow. While we've had crossbows in the past, the developers have overhauled the projectile system, which has opened up a whole new world of possibilities. The crossbow bolts now come in three variations wooden, feathered, and steel each with their own unique range and damage characteristics. The ability to retrieve bolts after firing is also a welcome addition, adding to the tactical options available to players.
Medieval Armor and Weapons
Another significant addition in the 1.21 update is the introduction of medieval-style armor and weapons. This includes a sword, mace, and a set of chain mail armor that provides good protection against melee attacks. The developers have also added a Norse helmet and a gray helmet, giving players more options for customizing their appearance.
Wool Gloves
The update also introduces a new set of wool gloves, which come in various colors and styles. These gloves provide good insulation and warmth, making them a valuable addition for players navigating the harsh environments of DayZ.
Community Response
The community response to the DayZ 1.21 Experimental update has been somewhat mixed. While many players are excited about the new content, some have expressed concerns about the inclusion of the medieval armor and weapons, feeling that they don't quite fit the post-apocalyptic setting of DayZ.
